The request was to build a home theater in a home basement that would be open to a pool table and bar area. The customer wanted the ability to watch TV while playing pool, yet did not want the noise from the speakers to be heard upstairs or in any other area of the house. They wanted the system to be easy to use, and to integrate a Microsoft X-Box into the plan of course all of this on a small budget.
The solution was to first address the concerns of noise. We installed basic insulation between the floor joists, floated the hung ceiling using rubber grommets, sheet-rocked the whole basement where we could, We chose a Pioneer 60” plasma for the video presentation. Since they are very bright it would work well even with the lights on while playing pool. To address the problem of watching video at the bar we installed a 15″ LCD TV. This second TV is fundamentally a second zone as well as the audio, so we chose to control it by using the Control4 line of products. The audio in the theater area is driven by a Pioneer receiver mated to NXG speakers in a 7.1 configuration. The whole system is -controlled by a Conrol4 Home Theater Controller 300, providing ease of use to the customer.
Our objective was to satisfy the customers’ concerns on a budget while providing a well designed and integrated audio/video system that is easy to use and basically bulletproof. Based on our customer’s feedback, we have definitely achieved that.
