Not all rooms are created equal—or even in a nice rectangular shape with an ideal ceiling for audio and video installation.
Take this home’s room addition that custom electronics pro 1 Sound Choice of Pompton Plains, N.J., dealt with. The ceiling goes two stories high, and the angle created an interesting solution for installing lights and sound to direct at the viewer.
“The owners were building an addition on the rear of the home. This addition we to be a large family room where the family can gather and enjoy time together,” says 1 Sound Choice’s Ryan Herd. “Their request was to build a media room that would not distract from the beauty of the room they were building yet had to sound great and of course easy to use.”
And how to deal with that angled ceiling and keep a surround-sound audio speaker setup from intruding on the space? The electronics firm cut into the ceiling and located five Boston Acoustics in-wall speakers above where the TV would go. It also installed a pair of Boston subwoofers between the front floor joists, says Herd.
And the video, especially considering the two windows to the right of the wall where it would be placed? “We chose Pioneer Kuro 60” plasma for the video presentation. Since they are very bright it would work well even with the lights on or during a bright summer day. The Pioneer plasma also accepts HDTV from the Verizon FIOS cable receiver,” says Herd.
